Watkins cruises to victory

Rhonda Cravens (my beautiful sister) rejoices with Henderson County Judge-executive Sandy Watkins and a crowd of supporters Tuesday, May 26, 1998 after she led them in an a cappella version of "My Old Kentucky Home" at the American Legion hall. Not pictured is my mother, who was Sandy's assistant, and who did a great job of keeping him in line. (Gleaner photo by Darrin Phegley)

Henderson County Judge-Executive Sandy Watkins won a second term Tuesday by carrying about 82 percent of the Democratic vote on Tuesday, May 26, 1998. Unofficial totals showed Watkins beating Chuck Banken 6,963 to 1,525.

Sandy died in 2011 - still in office, and getting ready to run for probably his final term. Our family misses him oh-so-much.
