Main Session 1
8.45am
What does it take to change Volunteer Management... really?
Original description: Changing how the press, governments, donors and others think and talk about volunteer involvement will take changing how organizations view their own volunteers -- and that means changing one organization at a time. Can you drive this change in your own organization? Yes! We'll discuss methods we each can use to push our colleagues and volunteers in new directions regarding volunteer involvement -- gentle methods, stealth methods, subtle methods, and very obvious actions. This is your opportunity to learn how to be an agent of change.

Update: At the retreat, this morning presentation turned into a discussion of Promoting your volunteering program internally, which is great... but it meant we didn't get to really get into What does it take to change Volunteer Management... really?. So, a new presentation was put together - you can find this below.

Main Session 2
10.00am
What does it take to raise my stock at my organisation... really?
Original description: How is the person in charge of overall volunteer management perceived in your organization? How valued is that role? Compare this role with how the marketing manager or fund raising manager are valued at the organization - is the volunteer manager seen as valuable as them? We'll talk about ways to improve the perception of the volunteer manager's importance, and how to make everyone at the organization see the position as essential and a valuable part of their own work.

Update: At the retreat, this afternoon presentation was replaced with a revised presentation that furthered the discussion on What does it take to change Volunteer Management... really?.

Elective Session One
TURNING 'NO, I CAN'T' INTO 'YES, I CAN!
We can all identify the road blocks and challenges we face in involving and supporting volunteers, and supporting staff in involving volunteers themselves. Sometimes, we can get so caught up in all these obstacles that we feel overwhelmed and helpless. Can road blocks and challenges be turned into opportunities? Can changes in our own language, attitudes and actions move obstacles out of the way? Yes! We'll talk, frankly, about how.

Elective session Two
Virtual Volunteering: Using the Internet to Support & Involving Volunteers
You are probably already using the Internet to work with volunteers, at least exchanging emails with current volunteers. But there are a variety of Internet tools you can use to give your volunteers a more personal experience with your organization and to help you make your volunteer management more efficient. This isn't a workshop about technology; it's a workshop about humans!

Marketing for Diversity
This presentation was not made at the Australasian Retreat for Advanced Volunteer Management 2010; it was part of the workshops I did throughout Australia. I thought retreat attendees might like to see it as well: Download the presentation on Marketing for Diversity
