Contact Information for Jayne
Cravens
I probably really
want to hear from you!
But FIRST, before you contact me:
- please do NOT ask me for grants advice/funding suggestions beyond what
I already freely offer in this document, unless you are willing to
pay a consulting fee for my time on this project.
- please do NOT ask me to recommend a volunteer
management/constituent management software package. I'm not
familiar enough with the variety of products out there. Here, for free,
is what i think you should look for in
volunteer management/constituent management software.
- please do NOT write me to say you want a "partnership" without saying
explicitly what you mean - do you mean you want to pay me for my time
and expertise? do you want me to promote your initiative and give you
advice but not compensate me? do you want to go into business together
and share profits? Be specific and detailed, please. I ignore messages
to me that talk about partnerships but aren't explicit as to what they
mean.
- please do NOT ask me to review your business plan for your nonprofit
or NGO, your web site, your software or your volunteer recruitment
platform and provide feedback, unless you are willing to pay a
consulting fee for my time to review such (happy to discuss my rates
with you!)
- please do NOT ask me how to start a nonprofit organization or NGO
(this information is oh-so-easy to find online).
- please do not write and say "I need to talk to you by phone" and offer
no information about the nature of your inquiry. I might LOVE to talk to
you by phone, but first, I need to know more about why you wnt to talk.
- please do NOT start your message with "Dear Sir."
- please address me by my name, spelled correctly, to prove to me that
you actually know who I am and that are writing me specifically because
of who I am - not because you bought a list of email addresses. Also, it
proves that you aren't a bot. If you don't, if you just address me by an
email address, I delete your message without replying.
- if you have my email address and are able to email me, then please put
an appropriate subject line - I receive more than emails 100 a day, and
I delete what looks like spam without reading it.
- please remember if you are writing me for my opinion that you are
writing me because you have decided I've got some sort of expertise or
knowledge, and when you reach out to subject matter experts for their
advice or opinion, you need to be prepared that they might say something
you do not want to hear.
That said, please DO contact me if you have a question about
information on my web site, my availability for consulting and my fees,
nonprofit management, communications for nonprofit/NGO or government
initiatives, crisis communication, volunteer engagement, virtual
volunteering/microvolunteering, Afghanistan, Kentucky, Oregon, my dog, my
motorcycle... I do like sharing my opinion, but I don't like being asked
for free consulting.
Also, I love hearing from university-based researchers
(faculty or students, either way), members of the press, bloggers,
students, nonprofit/NGO employees and volunteers - most anyone. And note
that it is very easy to sweet talk me into reviewing your thesis
or into offering academic research advice for free, as a volunteer
(especially if you share your final paper with me).
I receive hundreds of emails a
day. You read that right: hundreds. And I have no staff - it's just me
here. Please, for my sanity, respect the aforementioned. And if you do
know my email address and contact me that way: the more descriptive you
can make your email subject line, the more likely I will open your email
and that you will get a reply from me.
And remember that, while I do give away a tremendous amount of information
and advice away for free via my web site and on various
online discussion groups, I'm also a consultant, and need to pay for
my mortgage, utilities, insurance, and groceries. I'm happy to give you a
quote for my services, but please be as specific
as you can about what it is you might want me to do.
If you are from the press /
the media, & need to contact me urgently, this is info just for you on
how to contact me.
If you have written me and have not gotten a reply, review the above bullet
points, and then have a look at my what's new
page, which notes my availability - I may be out of town and unable to
respond to you immediately. Feel free to contact me again.
If you are writing in regard to a particular Web page on my site:
PLEASE give me the exact title of the page or the exact URL address - my
web site is made up of a few hundred pages, and if you aren't specific, I
won't have any idea what you are referring to.
If you want to suggest a link FROM my Web site, please read this linking
criteria.
If, after reading all of the above, you're in doubt about whether or not
to write, please contact me anyway; the worst that can happen is that I
won't reply at all or that I'll say no. I'm grumpy only with those people
who don't read the above bulleted text or assume I'm a man or grossly
misspell my name.
Form to
contact Jayne.
If you want to talk by Skype or Zoom or your own WebEx account, please
note that I'm usually on USA West Coast time (same as Los Angeles). View my
public calendar if you want to figure out where I am and my
availability. If you would like to try talk online via voice or video
conference, I can use Skype and GoogleTalk or WebEx, as you like. I do not
"hang out" on Skype -- if you want to talk via either, please contact me
first to set up a time.
I am on WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram- if you have that app too, and I am
on your contact list, you can text me.
Or, if you would like to talk via phone, use the form to set up a time
to talk.
