test of virtual volunteering
opportunities database

From May through September 1998, the Virtual Volunteering Project tested a web-based database of virtual opportunities to match online volunteers with the agencies that need them. This database was developed by Jayne Cravens, the Virtual Volunteering Project Manager, who spent much of her time in the Project's first two years working with organizations to cultivate enough opportunities to sustain such a database. The testing of this database was to help Impact Online, which originated the VV Project, enhance its VolunteerMatch online database to include virtual opportunities.

Organizations using the beta database included our Project Affiliates and many other collaborating agencies. Volunteers were from the volunteer ranks of CompuMentor and LibertyNet, employees of Mitsubishi Electric America, and people have volunteered online with the Virtual Volunteering Project and Impact Online since 1995.

The beta program is now closed. Agencies can input virtual opportunites to VolunteerMatch now, HOWEVER, before posting virtual opportunities to this or ANY database, please review Are You Ready To Involve Volunteers Virtually?.
